"Book 'im Danno! MURDER ONE!"

Our family is hooked on Hawaii Five-O! Dh got the first season from the library and soon we all were watching Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett solve crime and lead the Five-O squad through thick and thin.

So fun to watch TV and not worry about the ick factor today! However, my teens are learning about all sorts of 'culture'. HF-0 was made in the late 60's early 70's. So they get a taste of the Vietnam War, protests, drug culture, hippies, etc. And it is not flattering.. every time someone is using drugs they either get killed or kill someone else.. so not an incentive.

Actually it is an interesting way to see the beginnings of the negative culture we are dealing with today.. the free love, sexual revolution.. started in the 60's and McGarrett (the hero) ends up stamping a lot of it out.

Fun to see the technology then too... No computer. No cell phones. No pagers. No internet. Reserach is done at the LIBRARY by hand!
Telephone had twisty cords and cars were boats.

Yes, lots of mini skirts and such, but again, the 60's were ushering in a lot of what we are seeing today....

Oh, and this was fun. One episode was about a recluse who thought the Hawaiian goddess Pele was haunting him. Then I pulled out the wooden carving of Pele dh and and got in Hawaii before kids were born. We had an idol in our house! Boys gave us a lot of grief and we had a laugh. :)

Theme music is great too... look it up on Itunes.

Lots of fun--- Book 'im Danno!

More Petsitting Stories: Maddie

Do you all remember Maddie?

She is the black and tan dachshund we watched last year when her 'mom' went to New York. Maddie and her 'mom' Janet live alone together and Janet works from home. Maddie is VERY attached to Janet.

When Maddie stayed a week last time, she attached herself to me. It was a bit difficult at time, bue we managed.

Well, I told the three men that live with me Maddie was coming for a long weekend. REBELLION!

I had not realized that Maddie had whined and ran around the house franticly everytime I left! I am sure they told me, but figured they were exgarerating. lol Yes, pure rebellion.

I really want to help Janet out, as I am her only dog-sit option. So, I will just stay home all weekend when Maddie comes. No prob!

Happer At Home! Pet Specialists were Not at home this weekend

<==One of our canine charges...

Wow- what a petsitting weekend... and it ain't over yet.

Some new animal loving customers recently increased their pet population to 3 dogs and 6 cats. Two of the cats are spunky and mischeiveous kittens whose favorite game is to dart out the door between your feet as you go in and out with the dogs. (then you have to catch them! The kittens). The other four cats are recluse and you have to hunt them down upstairs and offer them food.

Oh and of course clean the kitty litter boxes for 6 cats. 6 HOUSE cats. 6 HOUSE cats who spend all day eating and drinking!

And then the dogs. Sweet, rescue dogs. Young and lively and crated all day. They are used to hanging with the two young boys who live there, so needless to say when we visit, they are ready to romp. So, some of our visits were an hour long to let them play.

So, Happier At Home was not home much this weekend... but out making pets happy to be in their homes.

Did I mention the customer wanted FOUR visits a day? I completely understand... as they love these critters! But it does feel good to be back at MY home. :)

Dog is the Best Kitchen Assistant

My eighty-something friend Leon Hale recently decided to take up cooking. You can read all about ithere.

I espcecially liked this part. Yes, it is so true and I find cooking without dogs around is a very messy and time consuming thing, especially when I have to pick my messes up off the floor. :)

"...I've tried that and couldn't make it work. I'd have fed my mistake to the dog, but Charlotte Brontë is not with me right now. I find it hard to cook without the dog.
She is 100 percent supportive. Sits at attention and watches every move I make in the kitchen. She tests every dish and has never complained about my cooking. She even likes my soupwiches. I miss that support.

We will miss him more than we know...

It has been very easy to criticise the President the past 7.5 years. Of course the liberals will go at it no matter what.

But those conservatives among us have shuddered here and there when his polices strayed. But I don't think we understand how much good he did. How much he did stand up for pro life convictions. And any of the new candidates (especially the democratic ones) are going to be a drastic, drastic change for the worse.

Molly's post reminded me of this.

Keep praying for our country. Let's hope McCain makes it in and that he sees clear to stand firm and keep our nation strong, free and open to life.

A Story of Meow

Meow is a beautiful, mottled copper and black cat.

She is very needy.

She loves people. You can't get by the hot tub, (her hangout, cover on) without her plaintive looks and begging for love, petting, brushing and scratching. (In the picture you see her on her hottub with her brush to her left. )

I met Meow when a petsitting customer ask we take on her mother in law, after we decided we were closed to new customers. Of course I said yes.

Meow's name is actually Chili. She does not belong to Mrs. T in Houston, but to Mrs. T's granddaughter in Colorado. The granddaughter adores Chili. But to continue her education had to move to a 'non-cat zone' and in a moment of insanity, Grandma said Chili could live with her in her small garden home.

"No, I really don't call her Chili. Just 'MEOW'. I just call her that. I can't believe I have a cat." Mrs T. tells me.

This is not my usual customer. Most of my customers adore their pets and give them names, and cater to them. (this is a good thing, in perseptive!)

Mrs. T is a practical woman of a certain age. She has lived life. In fact she said...a cat. Why her?
Well, because she loves her granddaughter.

I went to first meet Mrs. T and "Meow" one very rainy day. She met me at my car with an umbrella. We scampered into the house.

There, as we entered from the garage into a very small sunroom was Meow on the hot tub, beggging for love.

As we talked I got a tour. Pictures everywhere. Mr. T had died 15 months (and a few days) before. They were inserting a pacemaker, a routine procedure, and he died on the table. Mrs. T was devisated.

As she did the tour, and as I spent the subsequent 5 days in her house caring for Meow, I learned a lot about their relationship and family.

Mr. T was gorgeous. There are pictures of him in all stages of life. He was in the navy. The was a barbershop singer. He was honored and loved. In his later life he sported beautiful silver hair and an almost handlebar mustache.

Mrs. T was still in love. I hope I am in love when I am in my 70's. Meow gets some of Mrs. T's love, but Mr. T still is the one.

Happy Easter to all!

Yes, I am here, but just busy and pulled away from the computer.

I am hoping to read you blogs and catch up, maybe this weekend.

My dad was hospitlized over the Easter weekend, so that is where I spent Easter. He is in a rehab now, having his ups and downs, so I have officially entered that 'sandwich' generation we all hear about. :)

Oldest son and I are doing college visits. He wants to stay close to home at community college his first year, but this is an educational experience for us all.

I have been doing taxes (finished today) and volunteer work I committed to, and actually love. It is bringing me closer to God, so that is always a good thing, even if not always convienent. ;)

I *have* been working out-- that is good. But eating junk, so that is bad.

All is a balance.

Hope to catch up with you all soon.

I am so thankful for my family and life and the sun that rises every day.
And my workouts.

Life is good!

We are all on a journey, and this blog's reason for existence is to be a place to put mine. From humble suburbian begnnings just north of Dallas to a Catholic unschooler with a passion for faith, lifelong learning, my family and dogs, here I stand before you. Welcome to my world!
Authenticity. That would have to be my theme at present. To enjoy my family, be true to ourselves and our faith and be authentic and enthusiastic about life!

I love Dog Day Afternoons...
"What children need is not new and better curricula but access to more and more of the real world; plenty of time and space to think over their experiences, and to use fantasy and play to make meaning out of them; and advice, road maps, guidebooks, to make it easier for them to get where they want to go (not where we think they ought to go), and to find out what they want to find out."
