Our family is hooked on Hawaii Five-O! Dh got the first season from the library and soon we all were watching Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett solve crime and lead the Five-O squad through thick and thin.
So fun to watch TV and not worry about the ick factor today! However, my teens are learning about all sorts of 'culture'. HF-0 was made in the late 60's early 70's. So they get a taste of the Vietnam War, protests, drug culture, hippies, etc. And it is not flattering.. every time someone is using drugs they either get killed or kill someone else.. so not an incentive.
Actually it is an interesting way to see the beginnings of the negative culture we are dealing with today.. the free love, sexual revolution.. started in the 60's and McGarrett (the hero) ends up stamping a lot of it out.
Fun to see the technology then too... No computer. No cell phones. No pagers. No internet. Reserach is done at the LIBRARY by hand!

Yes, lots of mini skirts and such, but again, the 60's were ushering in a lot of what we are seeing today....
Oh, and this was fun. One episode was about a recluse who thought the Hawaiian goddess Pele was haunting him. Then I pulled out the wooden carving of Pele dh and and got in Hawaii before kids were born. We had an idol in our house! Boys gave us a lot of grief and we had a laugh. :)
