I don't know where I first heard this quote, but it is resounding in my mind so much lately.
I recently had an ext'd family member say ugly words. The person must have been frustrated or really angry. But those words meant something. I try to see them as just an unfortunate way to blow off steam. But they had meaning, beyond the emotion, and they stuck. Reminds me of Charlotte Mason's advice (paraphrased), 'don't leave a sting' with words to your children.
Also, watching the presidential campaign and all the rhetoric, I see again, how words mean things. Words are tossed off. By candidates and pundits. But they mean things. It is easy to get desensitized and then nothing means anything.
Also, some candidates in particular say anything to please or appease. After a lot of that, people no longer listen or care, or believe.
Words mean things. Don't say it unless you mean it. Then stand by what you say.

How many people need to reflect on this several times each and everyday? Wouldn't our world be a better place?
I hope the sting is somewhat less now but I know how some things just tend to stay with us long after the moment has passed :-(
Words do mean things - and don't I sometimes wish I could take back what I have said??? Dh and i had a long talk recently and he said things which I can't forget -well, I am trying but the sting is still there. So I know exactly what you mean!
