Ya Want to be Around Happy People?

Our parish is doing 24 hour adoration for the first time next week while our mission team is in Guatemala. I signed up to be a 'team captain' for 12 hours on Tuesday. I am on call if someone can't come and today I make reminder calls to all our adorers.

Most every one answered the phone. They were all happy, delightful, peaceful, very happy-sounding people. And when I thanked them for taking the slot they were mostly taken aback, like it was a privilege to do so.

What a joyful group of people. I wonder why? :) Maybe they are hanging out with good company in their spare time...

An interesting observation - and very true. I know I need to spend some more time in adoration and simply in contemplation.

Me, too.

A few years ago when my boys took piano lessons, I would drop them off and 5 min away was a parish with 24 hour adoration. For several months I was attending that holy hour weekly... wow, what a difference it made in my life.

I keep thinking I need to get to adoration, but just don't make the time.

One of the speakers on my CDs (I think Deacon MacDonald) was talking about Eucharist adoration.. and he was funny, too.. but was saying that often people don't know what to do there, or feel they must do something well. They won't go afraid their minds will wander, etc.

He said just go and BE. If you think of your grocery list, then do so. Just keep Christ company. Of course if you have deeper reflections, that is good, too.

I really liked that. I needt to do as you said, Leonie, just go and comemplate with no agenda.
