Discipline

It is a warm sultry late morning time here in exotic Houston.

Since my post about Lulling, I have been thinking about the counterpoint to that.

Puts me in mind of the book How to Really Love Your Teenager, where Ross Campbell talks about when kids need to start that seperation process, they need something solid to push against. That solid thing, in well-functioning families, is/are the parent(s).

So, thinking about lulling. If lull is not the normal mode, what is the solid thing it is pushing (or laying prostrate like jello) against?

Even in the midst of lulls, we have an inherent structure to our lives. It is not something that happens perfectly each day, but is a constant say 95% of the time.

Back to Cm. She wrote a lot about habits and they really stuck with me. I remember doing all the studying and reading of Cm when my boys were ages about 4 to 12... and how her ideas affected my parenting so much. And it was neat b/c during a lot of that time I was invovled with this awesome CM support group here so we were all wokring on this together. We had support meetings monthly and would pick a Cm topic and discuss. Habits was so popular and all-encompassing, that we stretched it across two months.

I remember one great Catholic mom who brought in some wonderful information comparing Cm's habits to the virtures. Yes... it was all so Catholic in its essense. That was when I first began to understand the virtues of our faith.
